This movie made me feel like I was high and drunk while watching an action film, I don’t really know how to define that, but it was an awesome feeling. I also understanding it was extremely hilarious and it was a really suitable sequel. After three months, Chev Chelios is help in action, and tries to pick up his heart before he dies. Doc Miles tells him that the Chinese gave him an AbioCor Artificial heart, and he must withhold it charged, or he will die. He has jumper cables helping him, rubbing up against an veteran woman, makin’ sweet treasure to his girlfriend, Eve on a horse hurry track, and grabbing electric wires. I highly recommend CRANK 2: HIGH VOLTAGE!!!

Take two really, really warped filmmakers (Sign Neveldine and Brian Taylor), an action star (Jason Statham) with a finely-tuned sense of the absurd, and a glowing leading lady (Amy Luminous) willing to have sex in public places…VERY public places…and you have the basic ingredients of “Crank 2: High Voltage”, a substandard yet hilarious trainwreck of a movie than actually succeeds in outdoing the insanity of the modern “Crank”. To say this film ISN’T for all audiences is an understatement; there is something here to offend nearly everybody! But if you have a ‘gonzo’ rush when it comes to action films, want to watch really cutting-edge camerawork and editing, and don’t mind an implausable status, rampant unpleasant taste and even worse language, you’ll have a ball!
The storyline is simple; Chev Chelios (Statham) survived the thousand-foot drop from the helicopter at the demolish of “Crank”, is kidnapped by Chinese who surgically acquire his heart (replacing it with a temporary artificial one, until they can harvest his other organs…including his “Spacious English” attribute), but he recovers in time to beat up the surgical team and rush, spending the rest of the film brawling, shooting, and, uh, other things, while struggling to sustain the temporary heart charged, in a bustle against time to recover his fill.

This is a film that even Neveldine and Taylor admits was an excuse to peruse objective how remarkable they could accumulate away with (including legendary porn stars on strike…a climactic fight in slow-motion, wearing caricatured masks…hot passion in the middle of a racetrack, with thousands watching…a talking, disembodied head…David Carradine as a very horny 100-year-old Chinese man…and wait to you peruse the variety of power sources Chelios utilizes), so withhold a very start mind!

The Killing Hour is one of those movies that’s paunchy of potential, but never quite reaches it. The one thing you should know rather fast is the killer is a character already in the movie and not someone who pops up at the slay. You should figure out fast who it actually is, but there a few scenes that might build you 2nd guess that. But it’s not really a surprise, on who the killer is, but their motive is the twist that while is fairly challenging, one would believe the police would figure it out. It’s one of those twists you have to view what you say or the whole movie will be injurious and while again the twist is fairly sterling, but not positive how the cops wouldn’t figure it out.
Buy,Download, Or Stream The Killing Hour! Click Here
The screenplay by Jonathon Ringkamp was the biggest dilemma with the movie, while not poorly written it’s fair that the characters lack any depth and really aren’t all that involving. The plan was quite lively, but the screenplay is the downfall here. Again it’s not poorly written, but the characters unprejudiced aren’t bewitching, which wouldn’t be so unpleasant had the movie focus on the murders. Since its more character driven well you need solid characters something this doesn’t have.
Director Armand Mastroianni made his directorial debut with the slasher flick He Knows You’re Alone, which was actually the very first film Tom Hanks appeared in; Mastroianni really isn’t a poor director, while he’s not enormous or anything he can assert a well-made movie on a dinky budget and while I’m no expert on his career he’s done some appetizing movies. He Knows You’re Alone was a solid if not clichéd slasher flick that was actually shot in Staten Island, Ny where I live and I’ve actually hung around in the areas it was shot so maybe I’m a bit biased.
Buy,Download, Or Stream The Killing Hour! Click Here
With the Killing Hour he doesn’t execute as fun as a movie as his debut, but the problems here are with the writing and not the directing. Mastroianni gets the best out of each scene, but there really wasn’t distinguished he could do to perform up for the shortcomings of the script. As I stated earlier you should figure out who the killer is rather early, but Mastroianni is able to add some nice touches to acquire you 2nd guess that.
The cast is splendid estimable with Perry King and Norman Parker give solid performances despite not having the best of material. Elizabeth Kemp as Virna Nightbourne is the strongest character, but is given cramped to do in the first half and by the time she enters the movie most of the potential is now gone, but Kemp makes the best out of a traditional character.
Overall The Killing Hour is by no means a terrible movie, but never reaches the potential it had. The twist is enchanting, but cannot set the movie. In the waste it’s an alright movie; you could do better, but you can also do a lot worse.

Spaceballs is perhaps the best Sci-fi spoof of all time. It has already been mentioned that it spoofs Star Wars, Star Slouch, Planet of the Apes, but it really spoofs nearly every mountainous Sci-fi movie ever. Star Wars, Star Mosey, Planet of the Apes, Alien, 2001: A Area Odyssey (”…they’ve gone to plaid!”) and many more. Some of the best sequences are the “ludicruous bustle” scene, the “instant video” scene, and the whole Yogurt fraction. Mel Brooks plays the spoof of Star Wars’ Yoda who is the guardian of the Schwartz and is also heavily into Spaceballs Merchandising, including the Spaceballs flamethrower. (”The kids adore this one.”) Rick Moranis, of course, is the Darth Vader spoof, and I have to congradulate the casting department, because Rick Moranis and Darth Vader have to be as cessation to being polar opposites as you can reach. Although I have heard it called unfunny and lame by others, I reflect it is a very amusing movie and deserves to be watched not only by Sci-fi fans, but by anybody looking for a righteous laugh.
The movie itself is pure Mel Brooks. I really luxuriate in how Mel brings hilarious havoc to the sci-fi genre, spoofing movies from Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers to Star Coast and Star Wars. I am surprised that MPAA had originally given this movie a PG rating instead of a PG-13 rating since the movie is heavy on adult humor, language, and sexual innuendos - not exactly what I would call a flick for the whole family. Enough about the movie; this review is about the newly released Collector’s Edition (CE), especially the bonus material.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Spaceballs! Click Here
The Dolby 5.1 sound quality has been enhanced compared to the unique 2000 DVD release, but I will need to confirm this. I’m tickled MGM offers a DTS track on disc 1. I have not yet compared Mel’s commentary on the CE to the recent release. I did manufacture some small comparisons of the narrate quality: The colors are more vibrant (perhaps too great on the red? ) and the describe is clearer to my eyes; the skin tones view proper to me. Since the video presentation is not THX quality, you will observe some specks and film blemishes. The aspect ratio on the CE (1.85:1 for 16×9) is the same as the recent 2000 release, but on my Sony monitor (4:3) the CE widescreen version is “slightly” zoomed in more than the 2000 widescreen released version.
I am disappointed in the Special Features. Why? For one reason, it does not include Rick Moranis. He is mentioned but is not interviewed at all - how can Mel not include Sunless Helmet! In addition, you will not obtain any behind-the-scenes coverage (other than serene photos) such as those found on the 2000 DVD release. Mel did not include any deleted scenes or bloopers (no, the film flubs don’t count) . However, there is a well-produced 29 little documentary that includes the other main actors and crew members. You will learn that the actors and crew members had more laughs making this movie than the audience had watching it. If this is right, Mel should have included some of those amusing moments in the Special Features. Also missing on this CE is a featurette about special-effects. The conversation between Mel and co-writer Thomas Meehan is rather dull, but the tribute to comic genius John Candy is commendable, touching, and about time.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Spaceballs! Click Here
The CE is a 2-disc DVD plot. It is a shame that MGM and Mel could not/would not include more about this classic comedy. Overall I give the CE version a 3/5. The movie gets 4/5!

Space Spot teams up His Airness, Michael Jordan, with His Hareness, Bugs Bunny, for a fun, and comical, family film.
Michael Jordan has retired from basketball, and currently playing baseball, when Bugs Bunny and his Looney Tunes pals ask for his succor in playing a b-ball game against diminuative aliens from Moron Mountain. These aliens have stolen the talent of 5 NBA players, including Charles Barkley and Patrick Ewing, and are now larger than life. Since this is Looney Tunes Land, this game is NOT your average basketball game. If it was, it wouldn’t be any fun.
Though not an actor of any kind in anyone’s book, Michael Jordan does a very superior job of interacting with his cartoon co-stars. Most of the jokes are well done and the basketball game itself is a lot of fun. In addition, it is quite comic to peep the 5 NBA players that had their “games” stolen trying to cope with their newfound ordinaryness.

This movie is not groundbreaking by any means and most all of the current Looney Tunes cartoons are better. But this movie never tries to be more than it is: a pleasurable time. And at that, it succeeds very well.
The original “Residence Spot” 2-Disc DVD is a fun addition to any Looney Tunes or family DVD collection.
Disc One features the film, which can be enjoyed with commentary from the director, as well as Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. Most DVD commentaries are a bore to sit through–and this one does have its over technical moments (especially if you have young children who “possess in” Bugs or Daffy), but the comments from the characters are very witty–including a jab that Bugs throws at Michael Jordan early in the presentation (concerning his brief baseball career) .
Rounding out the first disc is the theatrical trailer of the film (this is almost a MUST with me for any DVD) .
Buy,Download, Or Stream Space Jam! Click Here
The Second Disc is a nice bonus and could have easily been packaged as a stand-alone item. It features a “Making of Situation Quandary” and several Looney Tunes shorts (from the 1980’s and 1990’s), as well as the 1988 television special, “Bugs vs. Daffy: Battle of the Music Video Stars”. Speaking of music videos, the second disc also features “Skim Like an Eagle” and “Monstars Anthem”.
This is a gigantic gift for any Looney Tunes fan. Folks who liked it as children in 1996 (when the film was released) should collected like it as teens. Children who have never seen it will also like it. In short, it’s a keeper.

As far as I know Shaft broke current ground as a movie starring a murky man in 1971. Shaft was the perfect example of a rogue cop, taking orders from no one and tracking down the crooks no matter where they hid in the city.
Recommended for fans of Richard Roundtree and quality jazz.

“Who is the man who would risk his neck for his brotha’ man? SHAFT!!”
Blaxploitation? That’s like calling “Bullit” ‘Cracker-jacking’ [I rate Bullit a 2/5 stars] or ‘The Godfather’ “Wopploitation’ [am Italian myself-so clearly my criticism is the asinine labeling of SHAFT as an "exploitation film" simply because a strong lead character is a dark man-but he is FIRST a strong MAN]
I Admire this film; saw it prior to teen years and was a unbelievable “adrenaline pump” WITH A Myth. Violence? sure; gratuitous? no; the mean streets of Harlem are a turf war NOT driven by racial hatred but by MONEY [via heroin trade].
A new [and I have never read it mentioned] is that this film is an “equal opportunity offender”; the mob-white crooks, want to sell heroin in Unusual York turf and have to overpower the long-time “crime boss” of the area- “Bumpy”, a dim career criminal whose CV reads from the petty[numbers] to the Class A felony[murder], who besides being a “crook” has a downright noxious disposition-betraying local sunless activists [civil rights ala Malcom X "any means important youths] into fighting his “drug war” for him!! Caught in the “middle”, Shaft negotiates a deal for all parties involved-”Bumpy” will pay $10,000 a man [a very 'on target' critique of the indemnity policy paid in Vietnam to American soldiers killed, 80% of whom were black] for “Ben’s” activist “soldiers” to battle the mob. The “lie” revolved around Bumpy’s daughter [Marcy] being nabbed by the mob-this was how Shaft [the shaded private (...) who is sex machine to all the chicks] was brought into the imbroglia in first space.
This film won the Oscar for its pounding, extraordinary soundtrack, but I reflect deserved several; the screenplay was great- besides the handful of “distinguished” quotes, there are TONS of other memorable lines [the confrontation between Bumpy and Ben about the respective merits of civil rights and 'numbers, drugs and [prostituses] is very profound even in brevity], the demographic of “strong shadowy women” in an elderly shaded woman intervening between Shaft and Ben and preventing a fight; and many others.
The only “weaknesses” [and obviously, I Worship this movie!!] are Shaft’s relationship with the cops; what the hell forged their bond, and the actor who played the cop Shaft interacted with sucked; there was NO character development of the mobsters “exciting in”; and the women in the film were given a very demeaning role-”No one understands him but his woman”? Shaft gets it on with a white ‘one-night stand’ gal, implicitly a frequent activity of his; does his “woman”, totally under-developed character played by a qualified actress, acquire this infidelity or is she “clueless”?
The ending does not really cast Shaft in a “doughty” light; his courage is 100%, but he basically “takes the money and runs”, making fun of his “cop pal” as Marcy is returned to the repugnant Bumpy, several of Ben’s men are killed, and war has broken out in earnest between Bumpy and the mob which Shaft tells the cop pal “it’s your scrape” and exits via the downbeat of the guitar chords and percussion breaking out to slay the film.
In all, a celebrated of mine, tall, ample action, many “undertones” in the messages incidental in the film, and Shaft IS one Poor Mutha’ …..!!!!

I can’t occupy it’s been ten years since this movie came out. It’s had an immeasurable impact on the animation field and movies in general. At the same time, its flaws are evident. The humans perceive as plastic as the toys, and the fur on the dog is comical. Computers have reach a long blueprint in ten years.
Whether this movie was any reliable or not, it would have been an distinguished milestone. Fortunately, it succeeds on an entertainment level as well. The chronicle is masterfully told revealing place points and character equally. The movie is extremely humorous as well; with lots of jokes for the adults in the audience and some classic lines I quote all the time. Plus it introduces us to a Pixar staple, the climax that will not end.

Pixar has released vast DVD’s from the begin, and this two-disc dwelling is no different. The movie is transferred directly from the digital files, so the record is perfect. Sound is astounding in two separate 5.1 surround tracks. Many of these extras are from the Ultimate Toy Box release of a few years ago, and they are well worth having. The commentary is very informative. The deleted scenes are arresting, but it’s certain why they were deleted. The novel features looking assist at the movie from ten years later are fantastic as well.
This is a ground breaking movie that is fair as grand fun to behold as it is historic. I hadn’t watched it in quite some time and was reminded fair how fun it is. I’ve got to notice it more often.
10 years. 20 years. It will be 50 years and this movie won’t come by musty. It doesn’t matter that animation is 100 times more detailed and cooler today than it was in 1995, when the movie first came out. The strength of this movie is in the account. There is so noteworthy territory to see on this flic, and you have so noteworthy fun while you examine it, that you will never grow tired of it. And, with a 2.5-year primitive who loves to discover Woody once and again, I can bellow you it really doesn’t score customary, no matter how many times you peek it!
The second disc does a excellent job of accompanying the Pixar classic, going into the legendary details that have made Pixar’s DVDs well-known. There is plenty to sink your teeth into, for the die-hard fans and those who are simply a bit spicy alike. The entire package is a movie for all ages, for the ages. Salvage it and like it once and again. The truth is you can never go obnoxious with Woody and Buzz Lightyear!

This is it! The conclusion of Dragon Ball, the first huge series starring Goku and the rest of the gang. The quarterfinal bouts of the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament have ended and now only four fighters remain for the title. First comes a rematch between Goku and Tien, the two finalists in the previous Tournament. After three years of training with Kami, Goku has become a truly legendary warrior. But Tien has learned some current tricks as well, most notably his ability to split into four! Mr. Perfectly Ordinary has his shot against Piccolo Jr. I won’t philosophize you who Mr. Perfectly Ordinary is, but I will squawk you that he and Piccolo Jr. have a primary conversation in a unfamiliar alien language.
Finally comes the showdown between Goku and Piccolo Jr. This is a battle to substandard with the best of them in DBZ, and the reason why they shut down the Tournament for a number of years until Hercule won it in DBZ. As we all know, Goku wins, leaving Piccolo to wait for another chance to defeat Goku…someday.

I’m very joyful I purchased this box location, I reflect it was more than worth it. It includes so many episodes and I personally believe the Piccolo/Goku fight to be one of the greatest of all anime/manga, so it’s wintry to be able to gaze it at any time. I also devour this residence for the Japanese version, which is awesome to me.

I heartily recommend this miniseries for hard or military science fiction fans, looking for more of an edge than what appears in most media SF (film and TV) . Those who are enthusiastic in character development and strong dramas will also not be disappointed. In a nutshell, if you loved Babylon 5, you’ll probably savor this tremendously.
Ronald Moore’s miniseries differs substantially from the unique 1970s television point to. That expose, featuring a dose of Mormon theology and family-friendly characters, was feel-good enjoyment more similar to the unusual Star Wars trilogy and its Joseph Campbell-influenced storyline.
The flaws and changes made to some of the major characters from the recent series have particularly upset some fans and invigorated others. “Starbuck” is now a woman, albeit played by Katee Sackhoff, a young woman who manages to bid arrogance, a smart-ass attitude and vulnerability all at the same time.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Battlestar Galactica! Click Here
In fact, along with the realistic military overtones (the miniseries even traditional some station elements that will be familiar to genuine life servicemen, and Aaron Douglas shines as a believable, solid crew chief), fraternization is one of the overriding themes. Honest as in proper life, relationships and emotions complicate military and civilian duties - tragically, in the case of Baltar, whose lust and arrogance brings death upon his civilization.
(Fans who feel Starbuck should have been another man might do well to discover “JAG”, where faded BSG writer Donald Bellisario developed the character of Harmon Rabb - like the novel Starbuck, searching for his father, aesthetic, womanizing, a hot dog pilot, and proper to his friends. Interestingly, Rabb’s foil “Sarah ‘Mac’ McKenzie,” a shy but professional woman Marine, seems to be a more common character.)
Frankly, by making Starbuck a woman, this adds a unusual dimension to the relationship between Apollo and Starbuck. These tensions no doubt assume region on a daily basis on America’s real-life aircraft carriers, staffed with women and men. Unfortunately, of all the strengths of the new series, quality airtime for its female characters (and later, common characters who were dim, such as Boomer) was not one of them. The recent character of Athena was dwelling to be written out; Serena was killed off; and Cassiopeia was introduced in the first episode as a “sociolator,” a nice euphemism for prostitute, which fortunately did not return with the 2003 miniseries.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Battlestar Galactica! Click Here
BSG features a lot of arresting themes that are rarely touched on in media (TV, film) science fiction: the disagreements between civilian and military leadership (thanks to strong performances by Olmos and McDonnell) ; androids who have they are motivated by a higher power (instead of Asimov’s laws of robotics) ; maintaining a species’ existence after Armageddon.
It’s been 25 years, with an entirely original generation of science fiction fans having been born since the first BSG. Purists wishing for a kinder, gentler “Galactica” can like the plump series on DVD. Meanwhile, as an fresh fan, I enjoyed both a enormous deal - the kid in me remembering my fancy for the recent series, the adult appreciating the more former themes and “shades of grey” overtones of the miniseries.
A number of the reviews on this miniseries have been truncated or discarded, so please support this in mind.
DON’T Catch the mini series DVD if you are also planning on buying the season 1 DVD region. I made that mistake and wasted $$$. The mini series is the first DVD in the Season 1 state.

Compare Prices on Rurouni Kenshin - Shadow of the Wolf
Every time I view the opening credits for “Rurouni Kenshin: Wandering Samurai” in addition to trying to impart along with the modern Japanese version of “Freckles” I trace the irony that Himura Kenshin has not exactly been doing a lot of wandering in these episodes. So when I suddenly noticed that the title of the series is now “Rurouni Kenshin: Sage of Kyoto” and ironically our hero might be returning to his wandering ways:
Episode 28, “Prelude to the Impending Fight: The Shadow of the Wolf Draws Arrive” begins with a scene from Kenshin’s past, showing the Battousai earning his title of man-slayer. One of the recurring elements of the series has been people from Kenshin’s past showing up to bewitch a fight. This time the visitor from the past is Saitou Hajime, A customary member of the Shinsengumi and his most formidable opponent produce the days of the Revolution. In his first worry to accept the Battosai to resurface, Saitou attacks Sanosuke and wounds him the Gatotsu, Saitoh’s signature attack. From this calling card Kenshin knows that Saitoh has returned and the seek information from is whether our hero unruffled has the skills to defend himself and his friends. This was actually the final episode of the first season, and since 28 is divisible by 4 you have to like that they did not leave this as a cliffhanger ending to volume 7.
Episode 29, “Strongest Opponent From the Past: Merciless Fangs Strike!” has Saito biding his time before he faces Kenshin, allowing another assassin, the bully Akamatsu, to select his turn. Meanwhile Kenshin’s friends are catching on that someone is after him. Akamatsu is not really a match for Kenshin, which means it is time for him to reach face to face with Saito and for the battle to launch.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Rurouni Kenshin - Shadow of the Wolf! Click Here
Episode 30, “The Devil of Vengeance: Makoto Shishio’s Area” continues the fight between Kenshin and Saito, while Kaoru worries she will lose Kenshin to the Battousai. But at the height of the battle a modern character arrives and changes everything as “Rurouni Kenshin” takes a dramatic turn towards an even larger anecdote arc.
Episode 31, “A Wish Unrequited: Kenshin Departs” is where everything changes as an assassination attempt forces Kenshin to get a fateful decision.
The episode ends with a bit of text that had me panicing because I conception that I had reached the demolish of the series (I watched the kill of “Cowboy Bebop” last week, so I would not have been suprised) . However, this is only the commence of the second season of “Rurouni Kenshin” and the Kyoto yarn arc. “Shadow of the Wolf” is actually the prelude for this account tale. If you belief “Rurouni Kenshin” was worthy before, and that should be a given since you have made it to Volume 7, you should be impressed with how they have upped the ante again for Season 2.
The only advice I can give is, strap yourself in and pray to the gods that you aren’t thrown off!
Buy,Download, Or Stream Rurouni Kenshin - Shadow of the Wolf! Click Here
“Shadow of the Wolf” is the first installment of Rurouni Kenshin’s second sage arc, what many have reach to call the Kyoto arc. A remnant of the Revolution, long believed stupid, has near relieve to haunt the world, and Kenshin is the only man alive able to conclude him.
If you have, up until this point, classified “Rurouni Kenshin” as goofy and light-humored, then you’re in for a very vulgar awakening! From here on out, things become very dismal, very, very rapidly. Many of the people in my anime club refused to continue watching, because it was so graphic!
But it is this segment that defines what Kenshin is about! So, unless you’re simply in this for the laughs, you’d better prepare yourselves for one wild waddle!

Unfortunately, Diminutive Shop of Horrors and every other Roger Corman Filmgroup production lapsed into public domain years ago and have generally been available on VHS and DVD only in poor-quality editions ranging from merely poor to bad. (The only Filmgroup features to bag a decent official or semi-official release so far are Bucket of Blood, Beast from Stunned Cave, and Night Tide.) After researching every DVD version of Puny Shop of Horrors available (there are at least eight!) I played a hunch and went with GoodTimes to replace my VHS copy, and I’m very pleasantly surprised at the overall agreeable quality of the source print. When I saw the “preserved using the best available elements” line at the beginning of this disc I idea ‘yeah, correct,’ but I have to admit that this is the brightest, cleanest, sharpest (if not exactly razor-sharp) print of this film I’ve ever seen. The dark level, dissimilarity, gray values, and shadow/highlight detail are gorgeous, and physical afflict is microscopic only to some very light speckling and blemishing (!!) . On the downside, the transfer itself seems to be somehow deficient (coarse bit rate? ), causing areas of flat white or smoothly gradated grays in the image to expose some very faint but noticeable pixelation or banding, especially during the opening credit sequence (areas of flat color seem to be DVD’s Achilles Heel) . The casual viewer probably won’t glimpse this phenomenon unless it’s pointed out, but it’s there. That said, the marvelous quality of the source print more than makes up for this one barely noticeable flaw; this is peaceful most likely the best edition yet available of this classic ’sick humor’ gem and well worth the bargain trace. It definitely blows away every TV print and cheapjack PD video version I’ve ever eyeballed. Grab this before it goes out of print.
The movie itself calm entertains tremendously today, a amusing, goofy (dare I say charming? ) horror-comedy that basically plays like a stage farce (most of the action takes situation on one or two sets) . The record is essentially a remake of Bucket of Blood with a change in locale and a few original twists. This time Jonathan Haze portrays everyschlep Seymour Krelboine, who lives with his alcoholic hypochondriac mother (she listens to KSIK radio) and works at Mushnick’s skid row flower shop. Seymour (temporarily) finds fame, fortune, and romance by nurturing (and eventually murdering for) an exotic talking cannibalistic plant. Mel Welles, in his finest hour (literally), steals nearly every scene with his silly portrayal of perpetually angry Gravis Mushnick, and Jackie Joseph (Andy Griffith Note, Who’s Minding the Mint) seems born to play delicate, ditzy Audrey. Corman regulars adding to the fun include Dick Miller (Walter Paisley in Bucket of Blood) as Fouch, a flower-eating client, John Shaner as a sadistic dentist, and 14th-billed Jack Nicholson (featured prominently on most tape and disc box art) as his masochistic patient. Shot on a shoestring in unbiased three days (at least all the interiors), Slight Shop holds up better than many big-budget comedies of the day (anyone watched Account of Mankind lately? ) . Considerable credit must be given to Charles B. Griffith, unsung hero/architect of the AIP/Allied Artists/Corman style. His list of credits reads like Corman’s greatest hits: It Conquered the World, Attack of the Crab Monsters, The Undead, Not of This Earth, Teenage Doll, Bucket of Blood, Beast from Frightened Cave, Wild Angels, Death Run 2000, etc. Griffith’s clever, witty screenplay is a model of late-50s sick humor, working in a dead-on Dragnet parody, some fabulous malapropisms and bits of wordplay, lotsa Yiddish humor, and a handful of his patented icky-creepy moments. (Griffith also voiced the plant, Audrey Jr., played a few walk-ons, and directed some second unit scenes, all uncredited.) Fred Katz’s memorable obtain is alternately goofy and spy-jazzy, and, unlike some of Roger Corman’s other attempts at comedy (e.g. Creature from the Shrinking Sea), I salvage his touch unprejudiced lawful here, ably supporting Griffith’s verbal bits with complementary editing patterns (check Sgt. Joe Fink and Det. Frank Stoolie’s hilarious introductory scene) . Lighter in tone and a bit broader and more farcical than Bucket of Blood (which I personally engage), Microscopic Shop, judged on its contain terms, is detached unusual and captivating, though the extreme budget is clear at times. I’m not positive how fans of the Broadway display or movie musical will react to the fresh (I admit to being a purist myself), but if they allotment a taste for indecent budget scare or 50s-style sick humor they’ll probably rep it an offbeat treat.

Roger Corman’s Modern 1960 version of “The Slight Shop Of Horrors” is considered by many as a suitable cult classic comedy of B-Movies,even the most respected of film critics.Unfortunately depending on the tastes and opinions of film fans that were archaic to seeing this legendary film comedy through the public domain since there was a lack of copyright in the titles,(same thing had happen to “Night Of The Living Plain”) and for many years since the dawn of the videocassette and leisurely slack movie shows, those versions were vastly spoiled and often poor-looking in terms of presentation and inequity. Now the sizable folks at Yarn Films have finally place out a brand-new definitive and superior restored presentation of this cult hit on DVD in both the new gloomy & white version as well as the disc’s main presentation of showcasing a brand-new restored digitally colorized version too.As with previous selected Chronicle releases of classic horror/B-movies in their DVD series, the disc features a well-done and at times hilarious commentary by MST3K’s Mike Nelson and the substantial thing is that you can listen to the track on both versions of the film, giving the b&w version sort of a MST3K-flavor to it (I cherish how he refers to the opening Filmgroup logo as itsy-bitsy Reese Cups!) .Despite packaging claims that is the first time the film has been colorized,it’s actually the second colorized incarnation of the film.First colorized on videocassette in the very gradual ’80’s with lousy and at times amateur results, this Anecdote version completely blows away the first attempt and looks like it was actually filmed in color, but of course this films’ legendary budgetary constraints prevented from actually filming it in color.Of course lets not forget that the film features a very very young Jack Nicholson,in his fourth film role,in a memorable role as a crazy dentist patient.I must say, this Epic version of “Cramped Shop” is probably the most obedient and sharpest looking out of all the previous versions of the film that you’re possibly going to seek and no wonder it was transferred from an great 35mm print of the film! Other extras, besides the Nelson commentary, round out the package including both restored color/unrestored b&w trailers to “Itsy-bitsy Shop”,and the following colorized trailers for “Opinion 9 From Outer State”,”House On Shy Hill”,”Carnival Of Souls”,and “Reefer Madness”.Plus a gallery of nine man-eating plants,if any kids are planning to do a school project on man-eating plants, this could actually be a fun reference guide, and also a very short clip called “Man Eating Plants” which is actually the president of Myth Films Barry Sandrew vigorously eating vegetable plants such as celery (always eat your vegetables folks!) .Well-done packaging, favorable eye-catching menus and a pleasing transfer of both versions will definitely please any film buff, both Hollywood and B-Movie fans alike! This is by far one of the first best DVD releases of 2006 and is highly recommended for extinct and fresh fans alike instead of those who only retract the 1986 spectacular Frank Oz musical remake with Rick Moranis and Steve Martin.Highly recommended!
UPDATE 11/24/06:
Just Recently,Buena Vista Home Entertainment in association with Roger Corman have finally released an “authorized” DVD release of “Minute Shop Of Horrors” as well as a nicely restored unusual shadowy & white version of Nicholson’s debut film “The Bawl Baby Killer”.Unfortunately, the original disc’s presentation of “Microscopic Shop” is in fact the Recent colorized version, slightly mentioned above, that was first produced and eventually released to video in 1987 by Color Systems Technology. The source print ragged for the color version (other than the fact that the quality was directly copied off a video master for the DVD) is surprisingly in quite advantageous condition, but it really truly is one of the worst examples of 1980’s colorization technology I’ve ever seen and will probably be the last. The colors are often the same as positive objects (ie: the outside of Mushnick’s Shop and the greens for the flowers, etc.),tons of continuity errors (ie: clothing, signs, etc.) and does anybody wish to care seeing Audrey Jr. looking like a talking watermelon plant? Reportedly, that color version was authorized by none other than Corman himself and it’s easy to behold why many directors above his stature disfavor and disregard colorization.Nicholson/Corman fans alike aren’t going to be impressed with that bust of a release and it’s very easy to peer why the ‘87 colorized version was out of circulation for many years.Easier said than done, the newly restored Anecdote Films release is by far, hands down, the dependable winner due to the technology, version options, and bonus materials!
